changing desktop alignment
 

Is there anything in Gnome or Fedora that lets me change the alignment of the desktop? I can only find the change resolution/color depth utility. My desktop sets up slightly off to the right and I want to get it centered.

I think I understand what you want. Try fiddling with the buttons on the front of your monitor. Look
for H-position in the menue that pops up.

it might also be worth checking the refresh rate that your video card is set to..

what video card are you using? i use an nVidia gForce, and found that installing nVidia's own driver solved this problem properly.. it can be annoying having to re-adjust the monitor every time you log in to X!

I don't want to use the controls on my monitor as that affects how the winXP desktop looks then. I wanted a way within xwindows to do this. Hard to believe there isn't more availible for display configuration then just reolution and color depth.

I have an ATI card. Maybe if I got the ATI linux drivers working they might have somoe display settings that would do this.

Change your vertical and horizontal frequency in xorg.conf or xf86conf

Better perhaps to use xvidtune.

Run it from a terminal, make adjustments to your display, by clicking "Left" "Right", "Wider", "Narrower" etc, and when you are happy, click the "show" button: It will write the "Modeline" that you need to put into your XF86Config-4, or whatever that file is called nowadays. It worked well for me.

Ok Xvidtune does what I need, but where in the config file do I put the modeline in I don't see any current one in my xorg.conf file currently. Can you tell me were in here it should be put?
