Changed password and now can't log-in

I installed Linux Mint 17 with dual booting Win XP Pro and setup with no problems. I rebooted many times with no problems. I then changed my password and the next time I booted I got the error msg "COULD NOT UPDATE ICEAUTHORITY FILE" when I got to the log-in screen.

Now I cannot get past the "PASSWORD" screen to log in.

Maybe a permission problem? Could you log in as root?

you really have to learn to search before you ask questions.

enetering your error "COULD NOT UPDATE ICEAUTHORITY FILE" into the search engine of my choice, i see tons of relevant-looking results.
maybe the solution is already out there.
if not, post again with more information (read the 1st link in my signature).
