Several Files Which are Seen By Different Kinds of Logins
Based on your question, you probably want to edit
/etc/issue. For telnet logins, use issue.net. /etc/issue is displayed before login. /etc/motd is displayed after login.
In Redhat 8.. we used to have our name on the welcome screen (that is above the user name and password option) here in RHEL 4 there is no such thing.. we can see localhost.localdomain on the right bottom of the screen... i want to change this with my name. i will try your suggestion also ... thank you.
A lot of this display depends on the login type. If am assuming you are talking about text logins, and sshd won't display one of these files. I cannot remember which ones won't display on sshd
