Change screen resolution

I am running openSUSE 11.0, and I want to change my screen resolution.

I am running linux on VMware fusion on my macbook but I don't think this is a vmware fusion issue as I have also installed windows and I don't have the same problem in that.

I tried changing it with the xrandr command but the desktop stays the same size and the outside window got bigger. I have a screenshot but i'm not sure how to upload it?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll give it a try

Have you tried the sax2 settings under Administrator Settings, Hardware, Graphics Card and Monitor? Try running the test function before exiting. I assume that the same can be done in a terminal. I am ignorant of the exact relation, but I would assume that you need an adjustment on a layer higher than X. You might find that a combination of changes in X, and sax2 in SUSE will work. You can reinstall your screen and have sax2 work from another recognitions base using the command "sax2 -r" as root.
