Change kernel version ? and mkisofs, then booting of the same disk to install SUSE

Hi Guys,
Quick question because I am stuck in the following situation:

I have to change the kernel versions (because the new one contains a vital fix).Is it only the kernel that can be replaced and then create an iso file via mkisofs or there are additional details that I have to take into account ?
For Ubuntu I know I can do this because I found this source : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization .
Do you think Suse will require more advanced approach ?

How about you tell us what the initial problem is, and what the desired outcome
of the procedure should be?

Blindly comparing what worked for Ubuntu with what you have in SuSE is quite
likely to a) not work or b) be more work than you bargained for.
