Hi,

do you really want to "install" software to a cd/dvd or do you want to save/burn the package file to a cd/dvd?

Can you explain what your goal is?

Cheers,

Evo2.

You can set up your DVD and cds as a local repository
http://www.howtoforge.com/creating_a...ository_centos

But :
You will still have to rely on the CentOS.Base.repo for thousands
of packages + all updates.

adding a specific installation source

Hi,
i read the post. Well i am a newbie to linux, so i'm still exploring. I had a similar problem. I tried to google for some information, but then did not find anything substantial. I am using a Mandriva 2010 Spring installation. I copied the CD to a directory in my hard-disk and wanted that directory to act as an installation source.

You can add this directory as an installation source. But for adding it you need to add the file called <genhdlist2> in the update manager. So using a terminal i did a "find . -name gen*' and i got the following results

anugraha@devd6 Mandriva_installation_DVD]$ find . -name gen*
./cdrom/i586/media/main/genhdlist2-5.9-3mdv2010.1.i586.rpm
./cdrom/i586/media/main/genromfs-0.5.2-6mdv2010.1.i586.rpm
[anugraha@devd6 Mandriva_installation_DVD]$

I added the directory ./..../i586/media/main to the source for installation in the update manager.

This worked for me.

For other distros, i think you need to get the genhdlist2 file in the installation source and add that in the update manager for repository change.
