Change Hostname?

Hi there

I'm very new to Mandrake (Just installed it today) and I was wondering if this is correct?

I am logged in as root at the moment and in Konsole, my hostname or whatever it's called shows up as [root@x1-6-00-02-e3-0b-39-3f.

Should that be something different?

Where do those numbers etc come from?

Sorry for my total ignorance, but I've searched all over and can't find an answer.

hoi, i think you should change the file : /etc/HOSTNAME ( if it's used in your distro....)

during install u are asked for ur hostname

did u specify any hostname or did u specify to get that through DHCP
i think u have gone for tha latterone so,it ihas taken some random hostname

u can change ur hostname by
hostname <new hostname u want>

man hostname
