change from Hardy Heron to 64Studio
Hello All
I wonder if somebody can answer the following questions, When using a Live version of a distro where are the passwords and user names stored, and is it possible to change from Ubuntu Hardy Heron to 64Studio using Synaptic. The reason for asking these is that the live version of 64Studio doesnt accept the passwords previously entered and with the hard drives removed still will not allow me to d/l. Thought I might install Ubuntu and then change via Synaptic if possible. Thank you |
When using a live version of ubuntu, you must realise that you never entered any user names, or set up any user? Therefore, why would you expect to be able to save users?
Code:
getent passwd Code:
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash Code:
ubuntu:x:1000:1000:Live User,,,:/home/ubuntu:/bin/bash |

tks for the reply. In answer to yr question regarding live distros, I tried ubuntu live and then having fiddled with it installed it on the machine. I then upgraded/changed to the Studio version (my interests being of the musical kind). Now this is where the problem began and its driving me completely crazy. When it completed I tried to run jack which refused to run and still does. I then tried various other distros with virtually the same result jack would not run. I then thought to eliminate everything I could think of from the machine thinking that iff all the other distros were giving the same result then maybe it is a hardware problem. The machine was reduced down to 1 cd rom which I used to run 64Studio Live. When I went into Synaptic it asked for a password. Today I have changed the mother board and the problem still exists and the Live version of 64Studio is still asking for a password and still the only item on the machine is 1 cdrom. So thats the reason for the question and I am still completely baffled by it and still jack will not run, so if you can please help. regards |
