CentOS Horizontal Screen goes out of space available.

Hello all,

I am very new to Linux. I just installed CentOS 5.3 on my desktop (dual boot with WinXp). On WinXP my display looks very nice. On CentOs it is horizontally more wider and vertically looks compressed. I can not read some letters which are at left most or right most part of my screen. I tried changing resolution, but it could not be fixed. My Monitor is SamsSung SyncMaster 753s. Please help me. Should I change horizontal or vertical refresh rates?

If you are using an xorg.conf file (which I think you would be with CentOS 5) then YES, you should ensure that you have the correct horiz and vert rates in the file in the "Monitor" section(s), according to the manufacturers specs for the monitor. Also, make sure that the correct native and/or supported resolutions are available in the "Display" section, for the X server to choose from.

After doing that, you may wish to be sure you are using the most appropriate video driver for your video card. Some drivers will make the screen/resolution a little weird looking.
