CentOS bootup failure after initializing HAL Daemon

I'm very new to Linux and I'm having this problem of bootup failure on my CentOS installation.

Everything works fine until the line where it says
Initializing HAL Daemon [OK]
After that it just hangs.

I tried to do the interactive boot up and it turns out that it hangs while doing the initialization of local services.

Can anyone help me out with what I should do next ? What could I do to get more information and zero in on what is exactly failing ?

Thanks a lot for reading this.
