Centos 5 - lm_sersors - kernel utils

Hey again

This time i have a dependency problem. i cant install with yum. and i couldn't find any rpm.

--yum install kernel

no packages found

kernel-utils is needed by lm_sensors-2.8.7-2.40.3.i386

any one can help?

Are you trying to install lm_sensors or doing something else? Why do you say you can't install with yum? what is "--yum install kernel" meant to achieve?

Why do you say you can't install it? Are you sure it isn't installed already?

Try

yum list available | grep lm_

i suggest you desert this distro. i just installed it and it is not for desktop. i did not like yum (package installer). and it was really slow (slower than kubuntu) on my very new high end desktop

stick with k/ubuntu

That's an incredibly uninformed comment. What does not for desktop mean, and how do you know if the OP is using it for a desktop?

Slow? perhaps you didn't have it installed properly. I use CentOS ona desktop, I have both Ubuntu and Ubuntu installed on the same machine, and frankly, I can see no particular difference in speed either.

You didn't like yum? Who cares what you like! It's pretty similar to apt-get - both have their pros and cons.

Nice that you have a very new high end desktop. We're all terribly impressed.

Edit

I'll aslo point out that you are in breach of LQ rules

I have the same with a brand new install of openSUSE 11.1 x86_64. Me pdu newbie too. I did find that linux-utils is said to be old and is no longer available. I gather that the necessary bits are in kernel_sources. Maybe there is something better or other than lm_sensors to monitor motherboard, cpu temps. Or does anyone know of a way to make this work? I've never messed with make files or fixing dependencies so I'm clueless..

Thanks,
David

That is a pretty old version of lm_sensors. Current on Centos5(a very good stable desktop btw) is 2.10.0 . I suspect if you find a newer version of lm_sensors the dependency problem will go away.

Thanks

@ LAZLOW

A Google search took me to the old one. Now I know, it's installed and so far so good. Now to figure out how to use it...
