CentOS 4 - Setting users for vsftpd

Hi all,

I am 2 days old into Linux and CentOS. I want to setup an FTP server on my machine. I am configuring vsftpd daemon for the task. I have two question about setting the user's list.

  • In my vsftpd.conf file, I have set
    vsftpd.user_list file contents
Does this mean that the user named "vikram" will be denied access or will it be allowed access to FTP?

  • I entered the username for ftp in vsftpd.user_list file. Where should I set the password? Does this mean that I should have an account by name given in vsftpd.user_list?

Thanks for any help.

Hi vikram8jp,

you have specified in the configuration file that those users that are in the userlist file will not be denied, so they will be accepted and the rest, that are not in the file will be denied.
You do not need to enter any password in here, but you need the user vikram created on the system.
So the user must exist, or else you won't be able to login, because the user will not be found.
