CentoOS Directory Not listing

Hi All

I am using CentOS 7 and its running on Vmware Esxi.I have configured Mysql in that. After an mean while i tried to login in to the server with putty. The login was success but when i execute cd / then list all Dir by executing ls the ls command hangs and showing only a white curser. So it hangs there.but i can list ohter /etc Dir

I have Centos6 with MySQL (not really sure the relevance of mysql?) but I am accessing it via ssh. So a number of differences between our approaches.

Can you confirm that this is what you are trying to do and that the command hangs after the ls command? A screen shot would be helpful

First of all you should not be logged in over SSH (or any network protocol) as root user on any (networked) machine: create an unprivileged user, then configure Sudo, then log in over SSH as unprivileged user and proceed. Secondly your first admin reflex should be to look at the system and daemon log files for clues. Third please refrain from using screen shots to illustrate things. Fourth what does this return?:

Code:

which strace || yum install strace
/usr/bin/strace -o /tmp/strace.txt -ff /bin/ls /
/usr/bin/find / -maxdepth 1 -ls | /usr/bin/tee /tmp/find.txt

*Note this installs "strace" if not already found and you have several logs to attach as plain text to your reply: /tmp/{strace,find}.tx* .

Hi unSpawn

Thanks for the information.

which strace || yum install strace-----/usr/bin/strace

/usr/bin/strace -o /tmp/strace.txt -ff /bin/ls /--- returs the / Directories

/usr/bin/find / -maxdepth 1 -ls | /usr/bin/tee /tmp/find.txt--- returns nothing just hangs

You have several logs to attach as plain text to your reply: /tmp/{strace,find}.tx* .

Hi

Finally i have a doubt in the cifs-utils .i have installed cifs-utils in the server to mount a windows dir. i have permanently mounted a windows share to the /mnt to hold the mysql backup. Is there any issue with that.
