Cent OS recovery
I have a HP system installed with Cent OS 5.5. Due to regular power fluctuations, the system failed to boot. There is no UPS installed. Some one guide me how to recover the system and take required backups. The system contains lot of important data which is to be taken backup.

You gave VERY little information so only a wild guess can be given
if a gui is being used then the /tmp/.X0-lock might need removing Also centos 5.5 is unsupported you NEED to upgrade to the ONLY supported 5 version CentOS 5.7 you are two versions out of date . |
If you can, I would use some other LiveCD to actually recover your personal files and move them to a backup device prior to mucking about with your OS.
After that, I would go with John's suggestion and install the latest version of your OS. |
I could download Ubuntu Live CD and tried to reboot the system with it. Originally my system was installed with Windows 7 and Cent OS. I am having booting problem with Cent OS. Now I am trying to boot with Ubuntu Live CD. In the option, "TRY UBUNTO", I could view only Windows OS files but not the Cent OS files. Can any one help in this issue? The matter is most urgent.
