CDROM mounting and permissions

CDROM mounting and permissions

I have Mepis 3.3. I hear the sounds associated with log in and out, but am not able to play music Cd on CDROM. ALSA is configured

The Cd is mounted with the following permission line dr-x---- (found by holding cursor over the icon
Checking ls -al /dev/cdrom I get
Rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 2005--4-07 14:01 /dev/cdrom -- /dev/hdc

Checking hdc produces brw-rw-rw 1 root disk 22, o 2001-04-14 20:43 /dev/hdc
Also on dev/dsp0 I get
Crw-rw-rw
Dsp1 is
Crw-rw---

And so one 1-5 or so.

Mespis likes my sound card, Ensoniq ct 1370

What more can I do?

on some CD players like the one i have in my old box there is a plug that you have to connect to your sound card to play music cd's.

plug in

I think you are right. I took out the old sound card since it was not compatible, but it did have some lines plugged into it. The new card has no place for such a plug in.
Guess I just have one more example of why I should throw the old HP in the trash and start over.
Thanks,
Ron
