cdrecorder hangs

I have a Iomega external USB CDRW running on Suse 8.2. I can mount it at /dev/scd0 and see that there's data on it. But when I type as root 'cdrecord -scanbus' it just hangs and does nothing.

I am also wondering why when I use k3b as a user and not as root it cannot find the CDRW. When I run k3b as root though, it now hands, I think because of the cdrecord problem.

If this helps:
1) I changed the permissions on my /usr/bin/cdrecord file to +s last night.
2) The line in my fstab is: /dev/scd0 /media/cdrw iso9660 ro,noauto,users 0 0

Thanks for the help/

I panicked but I have now figured out the problem.

It was a matter of killing all the cdrecord processes which were running then as root changing the permissions on /dev/sd0 (the cdrw) to 666. When I do this, k3b can figure out where the CDRW is.
