CD player won't play audio CDs any more

I have recently installed a basic soundcard instead of the onboard chip. After some initial problems when I couldn't get any sound, I thought I had fixed things - system sounds play OK. But when I try to play an audio CD (using KSCD or XMMS) - no sound, although the CD player seems to be working OK (ie. it sees the tracks of the CD, etc)

Any suggestions how I can get the CD sound back?

Things to check -

1 - open a mixer and check that the cd input is reasonably high.
2 - make sure your audio cable from the back of the drive is connected to your new soundcard, not the old onboard one.

Ooops ...:o - guess who forgot to switch the CD-ROM sound cable from the onboard connector to the new sound card. At least I managed to work it out for myself, lying in bed last night, but thanks anyway for spotting it carlywarly.
