Just some general stuff; may not answer all your questions, but can maybe help. I generally use SuSE, have used Mandrake only 3X. One reason you may be having cd problems is you may not have permissions as user to access the device. Login as "root" and go into the "Drake" administrative center (sorry I don't know the correct name). There are two sections in there that can help. One has to do with the CD ROM (go here first), and the other with users and groups. You should see the things that you need in there. You need to give yourself permission as user to access the cdrom drive to read at least so you have to make yourself a member of the cd group. Personally, when I am writing a CD I always change to root user, it tends to avoid errors, and I bring up k3b, get my data together, and then put in the cd at the same time clicking the burn icon. I hope this helps. It's a start at least. Someone with more experience with Mandrake will be able to give you more specifics. Best to you!
