cd/dvd creator software for linux
Fairly new linux user. Having trouble finding cd/dvd creator type software/program compatible w/ Linux. Any suggestions? Am used to using Roxio dvd/cd creator w/ Windows. Want to take photos and short camera videos and create cd/dvd.

Hello sccrref
can you please tell me what is your distro ? because packages are different between some distributions and also can you post your OS arch (ie. x86 or x64) ? anyway my choice is k3b and if you provided me with the info above I'll post you the link to download :) (based on your platform) :) |
K3B and Brasero are the most popular from what I've seen. I have had problems with Brasero and use something called XFburn. They're all equally functional because I think they use the same command line tools to actually do the burning, they're just GUI frontends.

Hello,
Just a small list - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...iting_software You should be able to install these using your distro's package manager. Cheers, Josh |
linux compatible cd/dvd creator
thanks for posts. am looking at k3b but it doesnt seem to have (or I cant figure it out yet)the ability to drop and drag and edit photos and video w/ background music like Roxio let me. I can drag photo and video files to put one 1 disc but not more than that. Im not the most tech savvy person but w/ Roxio I was able to take for eg vacation pics and video, create a dvd w/ chapters and background music all the while editing the pics and video. If k3b can do that I havent figured that out yet.

I don't have the hardware for video editing, but here are some links to blog posts that deal specifically with video editing and video creation on Linux
Dr John Kampen is someone who's opinion on Linux related issues I respect. http://my.opera.com/nepmak2000/blog/...int10-and-more http://my.opera.com/nepmak2000/blog/...and-video-dvds |
DeVeDe will create video DVDs and VCDs like that. To do the editing you may have to use actual video editing software like Pitivi or Avidemux, but DeVeDe is pretty straight forward for making DVDs.

Sounds like you want a suite of functionality that is provided by separate apps. Here are the ones I use:
kdenlive - all around video/movie editing. Creates slides shows, add/edit music, Imports from and writes to many movie formats dvdstyler - creates professional looking DVDs with menus, etc. Can transcode automatically from various formats to VOBs. Can generate ISO files and also burn them to DVDs. gnomebaker - besides burning CD/DVD ISO files, it can also create music CDs from mp3, ogg and other sound files. |
