cd burning error in mdk 10.0

I am trying to burn a cd in mandrake 10.0. here is my output.

cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01a27-dvd (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jörg Schilling
Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version with DVD support
Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original.
Note: Please send bug reports or support requests to <warly@mandrakesoft.com>.
Note: The author of cdrecord should not be bothered with problems in this version.
scsidev: 'ATA'
devname: 'ATA'
scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2
Warning: Using badly designed ATAPI via /dev/hd* interface.
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/hd*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.

This is wierd, coz it seemed to at least give me the lun output before, but now its even more broke. Any ideas?

I know this might be a total newb question guys, and it might seem like i am being lazy, but i really need to figure this out. Then i can get a bunch of important data off my system and be able to start really playing around. I have had an install of nix before and i messed everything up really quick and lost a bunch of stuff. I want to make sure i dont have any important data on my hdd this time so i can go ahead and play till i break it
