Cant switch to console from X

Hy Guys,

I can not switch from X to console mode anymore. It usually worked with the String STRG+ALT+F1(F2,F3, and so on), but now it just does nothing. When i try to open the xconsole, it tells me it cannot find the console. I am noob, and i do not know, where this problem come from. The only thing i did was, that i shut down my system over the console mode with STRG+ALT+DEL. And after the next reboot, i couldnt open it anymore.

Not sure why this would have happened, but my only guess is that maybe the extra consoles are not being run anymore? Pop open a terminal window and run 'ps aux' and see if there are about six listings of '/sbin/agetty'. Those are the consoles. If they're not listed, check your /etc/inittab file; edit it and make sure there are several lines like these:

c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux
c2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty2 linux
c3:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty3 linux
(those correspond to CTRL-ALT-F1, F2, etc. when you are switching consoles)

u only need the tty3 (runlevel 3) line in the /etc/inittab, not all six.
