Cant shutdown laptop Ubuntu 12.04
 
Im having a problem were if my laptop is unplugged and running on the battery. when i go to shutdown the laptop all it does is restart, but when the laptop is plugged in it will shutdown as normal

im running ubuntu 12.04 and i have a sony vaio f series

Try booting with ACPI disabled.

You can do this by appending acpi=off to the grub bootline entry starting with kernel.

disabling acpi does not work, i also tried to disable acpi threw the bios wich failed aswell

what happens if you shutdown from the terminal i.e. the command "shutdown -h now" or "halt".

when i use the command "shutdown -h now" or "halt" it seems like its going to shut down but it starts right back up again

thanks guys for the help but i found that removing laptop-mode-tool fix's my problem
