Cant make views in latest Bind 9.8.2 all zones must be in views [FAILED]

I am using Bind DNS server 9.8.2 in webmin .

I was able to make view for mydomain.com (in view name) but when I try to do same thing for all other zones given below I cannot move zones and it does not show ( in view name )

"Root zone"
"0"
"0000::1"
"127.0.0.1"
"mydomain.com"
"localhost"
"localhost.localdomain"

I get warning

Warning - the following zones are not in any view : 0000::1 , localhost , . , 127.0.0.1 , localhost.localdomain , 0

BIND may not be able to start until they are moved to a view.

In Bind 9.8.2 there is no zone apply or configuration apply stop Bind and start bind gives this error

Failed to start BIND : Starting named: Error in named configuration: /etc/named.conf:37: when using 'view' statements, all zones must be in views [FAILED]

what am I doing wrong or is there a Bug in latest Bind 9.8.2

How can I uninstall Bind 9.8.2 version with view and install earlier version in webmin .

I installed Bind 9.3.4 in software packages but I dont know how to delete Bind 9.8.2 with views and enable Bind 9.3.4 without views. Earlier I had no problem with Bind Apply Zone and Zpply Configuration Stop and Start Bind from webmin but with this new release I am getting stuck.

Pl help

Hi,

I've never used webmin to configure bind, so I had to look its documentation.
According to this, either:
Quote:
Move any existing zones that you want to be in this view into it. A zone can be moved by clicking on its icon, then on Edit Zone Options, and then selecting the new view from the menu next to the Move to view button before clicking it. If this is your first view, all existing zones must be moved into it (or another view) before the new configuration will be accepted by BIND.
you can move those zones inside the view you've created, or
Quote:
A view can be deleted by clicking the Delete button on the same form. This will bring up a confirmation page that allows you to choose what should happen to the zones that it contains, if any. The available options are :

Delete totally All zones in the view are deleted, along with their records files.
Move out of views Zones in the view are moved out to the top level. This option should only be used when deleting the last view, for the reasons explained above.
Move to view Zones are moved to a different existing view.
you can delete the view you've created moving the existing zones out of that view.

Regards

Problem seems to be no apply configuration/zone button stop bind button in bind 9.8.2 latest version

Further Probabley Client views is not mandatory in latest Bind 9.8.2 but the problem is I am not getting Apply Configuration/Zone stop Bind Buttons in latest version. I dont know how to disable latest version and enable older version in webmin although earlier Bind package 9.3.4 has been downloaded overwriting files during Install package but in webmin Bind DNS server is still showing latest Bind version 9.8.3

However I had configured Bind successfully for 8 Portals which were online with earlier versions of Bind 9.3.4 and webmin 1.570. But in this version of webmin 1.580 and I also tried webmin 1.570 with Bind 9.8.2 ( I tried to install earlier Bind 9.3.4 which was installed but I dont know how to enable Package installed in webmin. It again shows Bind 9.8.2 only in Bind DNS server category.

The main problem is I am not getting apply configuration and apply zone buttons at the bottom of create views which was there in right hand corner in earlier versions of webmin Bind. So I cannot apply configuration. This is also mentioned in webmin Documentation as below:

"At the very bottom are buttons for applying the current DNS configuration or starting the BIND server.

but I am not getting it now in webmin Bind DNS 9.8.2 installed version. Perhaps creating views is a must in latest version Bind 9.8.2 and while I am able to create mydomain.com (in name view ) I cannot do for all the other domains localhost etc. mentioned there and I get an error when I click start Bind at right corner without applying configuration and apply zone buttons.
I dont know how these buttons are missing in Bind 9.8.2 .

Perhaps it is not mandatory to create views and now without views I can run mydomain.com on internal Lan but since Bind configuration is not applied the DNS is not working and site are not online.

Can I apply configuration from terminal if it is not available from webmin interface. What is the command as I have configured all the records A , Name server, Alias, and Mail record successfully and Bind edit configuration file does not show any error but it is not yet started or applied.

Pl help.

Hi,

As I told you I don't use webmin, so I could be of little help about it. Did you try to use a different browser to access webmin?
Also it could be a bad webmin installation, or a permissions issue, so give us more details, like your distro, how you've installed webmin etc.

Yes you can use a terminal, but don't forget to backup the files if you're going to change them. You didn't mention your distro, so see this to (re)start bind
