cant log onto gaim or register redhat

i am dualbooting linux 9 and xp i will eventually move to linux but would apreciate help as a newbie, i am not lazy i have read things up but cant find much on the following: i recieved my disks as 3 isos with a magazine however i cannot find mag so have no product id so cannot register redhat 9, also i used windows to chat (msn) and download peer 2 peer with kazza i assume gaim will give me same functions as msn, but it not let me sign in. is it because i havent registered redhat? also which peer to peer works on linux ? if any upgrades etc.. are needed could u explain how to do the first 1,

Any help apreciated, thankyou !

Logging in to gaim has nothing to do with registering your distro - gaim is simply a client which allows access to various networks - AIM (Oscar and TOC protocols), ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks. You just have to register a username with one of these networks to be able to use it.
As for peer-to-peer there are lots of great programmes for linux - limewire, gtk-gnutella, mldonkey. But my personal favourite is gift
www.giftproject.org it connects to fasttrack, openft, gnutella and opennapster networks and has several cool frontends.
I can't answer your question about registering red hat - I know nothing about it. It is linux, so I wouldn't have thought you needed to register it at all. Maybe red hat is special.

MSN nolonger allows redhat9's version of gaim to connect.
update gaim or use a different msn client kopete is my fave !

as for p2p use gnutella.

and getting redhat with a mag dont count as paying for it, you dont have a product id.

If you are using dialup, just forget it and go back to windows. Most modems in modern computers aren't compatible with any distro. of Linux. If you have broadband and can't connect to the internet, you probably have to learn a lot more about route and similar commands.

duuuude..... do you wonder the internet lookin for peeps
migrating OS's and discourage them ????

Dial up modems work fine under linux...
its the windows-modems that dont always work with linux.

and the guy cannot sign into msn, so i assume his internet is working fine.

and ive setup both linux and windows on LAN's to use
broadband, and its much easyer under linux.

you just set the router as gateway IP. done.
but in windows you have to install loads of extra programs on a cd that the ISP sends you that babysit windows into working.
