Cant install Linux!!!!

Hi everyone,

How do i boot up the linux installation? i can't get it to boot from CD or floppy, i made a boot disk with the mandrake and it recognizes that there is a floppy and trys to boot it BUT it fails, i made the Mandrake boot floppy with rawwritewin and i read somewhere to use the cdrom.img file to make the disk. the thing where i am stuck at is in RedHat there isn't a cdrom.img. so please anyone that knows WTH is how to do this please.

Thanks,

You can download a boot image from Redhat's site, or you could get it off the first cd of the installation. If you choose the cd, you'll have to copy it before trying to install (obviously). Then copy it to a disk with either dd in linux or rawrite in windows. I believe the file is called boot.img.

Hmmm... I had a similar problem installing Slackware, and it turned out I was trying to use a bad disk. Try another disk. Maybe the image isn't any good get another one from: ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/8.0/en/os/i386/images

In your earlier post when you said you can't get it to boot from cd - did you change your bios settings to try to do it? I can't boot from my cdrom, but on a lot of newer computers you can by altering the bios settings. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you.
