cant get my card to work

I have a dell true mobile 1150 seriese wireless lan card. I amm a newbie and so far i have installed linux, added the pcmcia-cs package from sourceforge and got my wireless card showing up in Mandrake. Now I cant get it to connect to the router.
when I was setting up the drivers i had them autodetect so im not sure if this could be a wrong driver or something. the orinoco driver is loaded, but im not sure if I need to get a specific one online to add to the kernel or whatever.
ANyway, i manually set up all the lan configurations and turned off my encription and mac filtering on the router to see if that is the problem but still nothing.
Please any help would be much appreciated and keep in mind I am new to linux and am still learning the vocabulary and commands.

Checking the list of devices at, I see that the Dell True Mobile 1150 uses the orinoco driver.

What do you mean that the card is "showing up in Mandrake"? What tool are you using to see it showing up? How do you get it to "show up"?

Have you installed the drivers from

Have you adjusted the configuration files in /etc/pcmcia? Specifically, /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts and /etc/pcmcia/network.opts? Not too hard really, the files themselves contain a lot of instruction on what should be entered.

I have already installed the pcmcia-cs drivers, the orinoco drivers and have configured everything but still cant get it to connect to my router. Im a newbie to Linux but not to computers and I have to say that so far my experience with linux has been a pain in the buttox. I cant get my modem to work or my wireless card.
When I said I "got it to show up" I meant in the KDE desktop under the configuration utility.
Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated, I would love to get this wireless card working asap.
