Can't get in the Internet by the brand new eeebuntu installation on eeePC 1005AH

I've been tempted to try the eeebuntu over my Asus eeePC 1005AH and I've been surprised how simple and smooth the installation went, every component and device has been recognized correctly, from the devise manager is possible to turn on and of the WiFi, Bluetooth, webcam, the 6-cell battery provide me the regular 6+ hours, etc.

However I can't get in internet. Managing the network connections from the Control Center I have added manually the SSID and security parameters, or I beleive so becasue differently from windows there is no utility that scan the available wifi networks around.
I am certainly missing something.
Can anyone give me a tip?

Of course there is, you just don't know what it is called.
Open a terminal, and type
sudo iwlist scan Give your password when prompted. You'll see a list of available networks.

The 'buntu's "Network Manager" is currently not as good as wicd

Uninstall NM (it's a PITA) and install wicd. Use an ethernet cable connection if necessary, to get it downloaded and installed. It is very good.

Welcome to LQ!

the reply from iwlist was:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning
pan0 Interface does not support scanning

sounds like there is no internet device installed, should I mount them manually?

although I have uninstalled NM (using the Add/Remove application) when I'm going to open the .deb it reply by:
Error Conflicts with the installed pakage 'network-manager'

I have also rebooted, just in case, but the situation is wont change.

You need to use your "Package Manager", which will resolve these conflicts for you.
The package manager is NOT Add/Remove software, it's likely to be called Adept, or Synaptic

And add this line
Code:
deb http://apt.wicd.net jaunty extras
to the file /etc/apt/sources.list (you need to be root to do this)
NB You may have to change jaunty so it matches the other release names in that file (Intrepid, Hardy, Whatever). I have no idea which release eeebuntu is currently based on

Now fire up your package manager. Make it update the list of packages available. Then search for wicd and mark it for installation. Install it. This will properly get rid of NM for you.

Read the notes in the wicd install page, particularly "Troubleshooting".
