Cant get fdisk or cfdisk to partition my 20gig Bytes disk

I am trying to install slackware 9.1 and using cfdisk or fdisk for that matter
i cant get either to see my whole disk space, i appear to be losing 10gig
somewhere. Both programs only appear to see 10gig of disk space. Has anyone else had this problem, can anyone help.

Thanks

Heath

you will need to give more info.

what version of (c)fdisk ?
whats the hard disks manufacturer ?
ide or scsi ?
distro ?
motherboard ?

also post the output of
fdisk /dev/(the disk)
then hit 'p'

what OS was the disk partitoned under ?

some versions of cfdisk detect my old 1 gig disk as a 6 gig. (it has 5 gigs of unusable space)

try updating (c)fdisk

Do you use the fdisk/cfdisk tools under Linux or under DOS?

It may be that your problem is related to an old BIOS version which does not recognize the disk correctly (as was the case on my PC), or an old version of these tools.

Try to boot Linux from a CD (for example a relatively recent Knoppix, Mepis or SuSE Live CD) and to use fdisk or YAST or similar tools from there.

Cheers.

Thanks, I ended up swapping my hard 20gig Fujitsu hard drive for a 20 gig IBM,
and it was detected O.K by cfdisk.

Thanks
