cant get 3com gigabet ethernet to work on mandrake 9.2
ok, i reciently decided to try out mandrake linux 9.2, after installing it, i cant get my 3com gigabit ethernet (built in the p4p800 motherboard) to work w/linux, i have no idea what i am doin, so could somebody help, and in VERY simple english, because i am very new to linux. Thank you
Go to www.google.com/linux (aka G4L) and do a search for your specific ethernet adapter and look for 'modules". Once you find the name of it, try typing as root in a command line:
modprobe <modulename>
but with the correct module name and without the <>'s. If you get no errors, you've just loaded the drivers. If it doesn't work, you'll need to download the module and install it.
If it works, set up your connection with netconfig as root in a command line. Hope this helps.
ok so the driver i need is 3c2000, and it doenst work w/mandrake 9.2, and im lost, but i have seen other posts on how they edited it to work with mandrake, im just not smart enough to figure out what is goin on....so if anyone could give me a step-by-step on how to get this to work that would be great...
i had the same problem wasn't able to find an exact 3com driver but found one that was part of mandrake that works for it my mobo is the asus p4p800 delux it is the *sk98lin*

I'm on Gaim with MSN right now. What version of Gaim do you have? Try setting your MSN Login server to messenger.hotmail.com when you create your MSN account in Gaim. Works like a charm for me.
Hmm, I think this topic just might have helped me with my problems! Just hope it does, I'm getting awfully sick of booting my Linux down to get online >_<
