cant find command shutdown ???


Hey guys.

when im logged in as root, i can shutdown the computer fine with the shutdown (forget the option) now

but when loged in as a regular user i cant, not even in superuser mode, whassup ?

Yeah the reason is that the shutdown command is in /sbin which is not in a regular users path and even if it was they do not have permissions, or should not, to execute that command. When you su to root try:

su -

This will log you in as root with all of roots paths set correctly.

You can't use it with a normal user beacuse of security reasons.. you have to su - as he Crashed_Again well said.

Is there a way to allow users to shutdown the system without having the root password? I am VERY new to this. I just performed my first install last night and I am still learning to configure everything...
