Is this a purchased version, or did you download and burn it to CD? It sounds like a bad burn, to me.

i downloaded the iso's in work and got my boss to burn them onto disc for me as i dont have the net at home or on OS on my pc, this is the only distro i've had a prob with installing, i have a copy of Fedor Core3, Slackware 10.1 and Mandriva. I also have two live CD's (Linspire and Knoppix).

which one should a COMPLETE beginner start off with (and pls dont say knoppix as i didnt like using a live disc)

If you don't want to use a Live-CD, then out of the list presented, I would say Mandriva. Even if you *hadn't* given a list, I would say Mandriva. (But, then, I'm biased. ;) )

It still sounds to me like a bad burn. Make sure the md5sums are correct for the three ISOs, and if possible, check the resulting CDs, as well.

Thanks..I might not bother though...I'll probably end up buying it from Debian online just to keep in my collection..I only ended up wasting two cd's anyway because I was installing it on a comp at work while my boss was burning off the ISO's (he only got to burn two before he had to do somthig else), so no major harm done there.

I previously installeD Mandriva as a dual boot on another comp at work and it worked perfectly first time.
