cant emerge hotplug

i just installed gentoo from a univeral 2005.0 cd. well, not quite... i used the material from that cd to install gentoo on an fs amilo pro v2000 without a working cdrom.
the problem im having, is getting the wireless intel pro bg2200. trying to:

emerge ipw2200
wants to merge sys-apps/hotplug-20040923 at first, by trying to d-load the thing. naturally, it cant. trying to:

emerge --usepkgonly hotplug
returns: "there are no packages available to satisfy "hotplug""

whats the easiest workaround?

Odd... I always thought hotplugging was something that needed to be compiled into the kernel itself.... I may be wrong, but you may have to recompile your kernel (it's really not that hard) with hotplugging enabled and then retry.

solved it. just d-loaded the stuff manually using a working comp and added it to /usr/portage/distfiles.
