Cant connect to the net

hey guys,

i have debian 3.1r0a runnig, and the network is configured as below:

debian:~# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:44:24:4E:F0
inet addr:192.168.1.103 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:883 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:458 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:102 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:102042 (99.6 KiB) TX bytes:59682 (58.2 KiB)
Interrupt:11 Base address:0xe400

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:840 (840.0 b) TX bytes:840 (840.0 b)

the problem is that when i ping to 192.168.1.61 (my INTERNET machie -windowz) it replys back, but when i try to ping cyber (INTERNET machines name) it says "ping: unknown host cyber" and i cant ping to google.com too. and i need to connect to the internet from my debian...

can anyone tell me how to do this

thanks in advance..

the outcome of "ifconfig" shows that at that moment you were not connected to the internet, b'coz its showing entries for "eth0" and "lo" only....
what type of internet connection are you using........???
is that windows machine on your local network.........???

hello,
you can ping to your windows mahine b'coz its on your local network.....it has nothing to do with your internet connection.
Sorry i can't help you out with ADSL connetion....b'coz i myself works with dial-up connetion.
One thing is clear that you haven't conneted to internet yet through your debian machine......so check out how to configure it.

do some search work to get information about "how to connect to internet using ADSL"
