can't change screen rez in suse 9.3 from 640x480?

i just installed suse 9.3 and all seems to be fine, except the display. it's running at 640x480 and when i right click the desktop and go to configure desktop, select monitor, i can change it to 1152 but can't hit "apply". is there another short cut or Alt-a to apply settings when a screen is open? I've tried moving the menu around and resizing doesn't help either. PLEASE HELP!!!

Go to a terminal by doing ctrl+Alt+F2. Login as root and run "xorgconfig" to setup you /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Or you can edit your xorg.conf file directly if you know how.

Note: I use the "xorgconfig" command on Ubuntu. Dont know much about Suse. If that command isn't there, then do "apropos xorg" to see the commands/files related to xorg

I think the problem is that half the window is cut out from the screen because of the low resolution, so he can't possibly use a GUI. Many a times, the screen shifts, and keeps following the mouse. But this may not always happen. Thats my personal experience.
