Hello ssb1, welcome to LQ,

could you please provide more information?

Which hardware do you use?
Please describe what you did in order to install Mint or Arch.
From CD or USB?
How far did the installation go?
Is there another OS already installed on the computer?

Markus

since your errormessage
Code:

error_code+0x73/0x78 note: udevd[904 exited with preempt_count 1
has something to do with udev, I'd recommend to check the hardware.

The udev-programm is responsible for the hardwaresupport in Linux, it tries to recognize all devices while booting and, when the system is running, manages plugin/plugout of devices.

So you're running Windows on this computer, did you experience any errormessages in Windows?

As a test, if the harddrive you want to install Linux on isn't damaged, I'd recommend to format this drive from Windows (with NTFS) and check if there are any problems reported. Afterwards the Linuxinstaller will reformat the drive with a Linuxfilesystem.

It may also be, that the hardware is not damaged, but the installCD lacks the driver for a specific device. If you can manage to boot any Linuxsystem, you may look at the output of the "lspci" command. But since your system doesn't boot, this can't help yet.
