You have to be root to insert modules into the kernel - sensible really.

gphoto won't detect the camera when it is in normal mode. You use the mount command to access the camera instead. Often it will show up in your graphical mount/volume tool. Sometimes it will even show up on your desktop. (i.e. when I plug in a usb mp3 player, it shows up as a usb drive icon on my desktop (FC4) but in RH9, I had to hunt through the /dev/sdx devices until one would mount.)

Following the steps in http://www.gphoto.org/doc/manual/ I was able to communucate with my camera; and to copy the images to my home directory. Thank you for your help; and advice!

NOW.....
I was wondering if you could help me with my no-print problem, on my HP officejet 5510.

I can presently print in Windows, but not in linux.

Before print job:
hebrews:~$ lpq
Printer: lp1@hebrews 'HP OfficeJet 5500'
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
Status: job 'epjh@hebrews+864' saved at 15:37:25.624

After print job:
hebrews:~$ lpq

Use CUPS (debian package cupsys and cups-bsd I think.)
