Canon MP130 printer install on Linux Mint 17

Just installed the wonderful Mint 17 on a 2006 Vaio laptop with XP. Can I simply insert my Canon MP 130 software disc like I did with XP and follow the instructions or do I have a few hoops to pass through?

You will have to setup with cups when you try to add printer in cups(cups has a driver search option) you can search for the driver for your printer which canon says not supported.
canon ip1500 is the driver that they say will work.

printer install MP130 Canon

Thanks for the superb info, detailed, websites etc. Last question is: this printer is fairly old; I'e cleaned the ink absorbers once, and looking ahead at cloud printing, so as a new Mint user, what's the go-to way to print from Linux?
