Cannot successfully install Kubuntu, Xubuntu or Fedora... Intel i810 help needed!
Hi
I recently decided to drag an old PC out of the loft with the idea of running Linux on it for the first time. I replaced the hard drive with an 80GB one and proceeded to attempt to install (tech specs here http://support.thetechguys.com/layou...-eebdba331381}) I attempted to run the Live CD of Kubuntu, as my PC only has 256MB of RAM and the motherboard wil lnot recognise any more. However, I was presented with a blank screen with no GUI. I then downloaded the alternate install CD and successfully went through the installation. However, after booting the screen went blank and I had to Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get to the command line. From looking on the internet I found that this was due to the i810 Intel graphics chip. Despite following various guides I could not install the drivers and drew a blank. Attempts to install Xubuntu, Fedora and various other old distros of these three failed in a similar vain. One of two things would be good: 1) To get Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Fedora working on my current setup 2) To be recommended a new graphics card that will be compatible I've been struggling for a few months now and I am desperate for help. I really want to give Linux a go but may have to fall back on Windows 2000. Any help would be lovely Thanks guys! |
Youŕe internal memory is 128 MB
To run Kubuntu or Fedora that is very low . I suggest that at a minimum you need 256 MB or 512 MB A small linux version will run with 128 MB , but still if you like to use a GUI if that is possible I do not think so |
