Cannot select multiple files using Ctrl + left click

Hi,

In Ubuntu 9.10 I cannot select multiple files using Ctrl+left mouse click. It can't be done in OpenOffice.org Writer as well. Can't select multiple words using that key combination.

But it works fine with the desktop icons.

Is it an issue with Compiz? Any ideas?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks!

dulanja,

Try Shift+LeftMouseButton, also Shift+RightMouseButton.

So it doesn't work in Nautilus (GNOME's default file manager)?

malekmustaq, Shift+LeftMouseButton selects multiple adjacent files as it's intended for. And Shift+RightMouseButton does the same job as the Ctrl+LeftMouseButton, but it pops out the file menu at each click. At least I can get the job done from that! Thanks a lot for pointing that out :)

vastvet, i'm pretty sure that key combination worked fine earlier. I noticed that issue only after configuring Compiz. That's why I guessed it may be something to do with that. I checked many key bindings in it, but failed to find any conflicts. Thanks for your suggesion.

MTK358, yes, and in OpenOffice.org Writer as well. I didn't check it in other applications of that suite.

FIXED - Ctrl + Click doesn't select different files

The ctrl + left click is mapped to resize/move the window with the mouse, if you click ctrl+alt and left click then it selects the different files just fine :-)

Hope it works for you too ;-)
