cannot mount cdrom

When I try to mount a cdrom, i get the following error message:

mount: /dev/hdc already mounted or /media/cdrom0 busy

but the device is not mounted (umount does not work), and fuser does not show any processes accessing the cdrom.

What can I do?

Is it an audio cd? Remember that you don't need to mount audio cds.

After a reboot, do you still get this same error?

You're not typing the command immediately after putting in the disk are you? Give it a few seconds to recognize the disk first
