cannot make

Hello all I am trying to build a new kernel to install a new video card driver but cannot run any make commands, I have the kernel source installed and am trying to run the commands from /usr/src/linux but keep getting the error: bash: make: command not found.
I have done this before with mandrake 9.1 a while ago and was successful, I now have suse 9.1 installed and the 2.6.4-52 kernel.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Mike.

SuSE Personal 9.1 -> The castrated version.
The version lacks compilers and appropriate programs. You should find the Gnu "Make" program and KConfigure. If you get error messages, you probably need one of the programs listed on the SuSE Professional List.
