Cannot login with FTP
Hi,
I've Installed Redhat Distribution, and I've setup FTP. But when I try to connect from my Nt mechines, I get an error, saying "the object is remote". When I tried to use a graphical FTP client, I got the message "connect call failed" i'm verrry new to Linux, and I wanna set up FTP badly, for file sharing. If anyone has a solution, pls help. thanks.. Felix(felix@eckerala.com) |
What user are you trying to connect as?? Root isn't normally allowed to ftp into a box so that might be stopping you if you haven't created yourself a non-priviledged userl. Also, what version of RH you using?

I use RH 7.1. Also, I tried to login as a guest user, and also I've editted /etc/ftpaccess file. Any clues??

When you say you've edited /etc/ftp.access you removed users from here that you want to be able to ftp into the system right? This file lists the people who are not allowed to ftp in... My next step would be to check your PAM config... Unfortunately I can't help on this one as I know nothing about PAM!!

Chances are that your /etc/pam.d/ftp file contains a line referencing the pam_shell.so library, meaning that if the user does not have a shell that isn't /bin/false, you won't be able to log in. I am having the same problem right now too, it's easy to fix but it opens the window to telnet/ssh access that's the part I am working on alleviaing now.
