cannot login as newly created user in terminal
Hello All,
I am using Redhat 9 and have trouble with switching users.
When i turn on my system I log in as 'arun'( at the GUI login screen). 'arun' is a normal user account. Then i open a terminal and switch to super user using the su command. And then I create a user 'oracle' as follows:
useradd -c "Oracle Software owner" -g oinstall -G dba oracle
passwd oracle
I log out of my entire session and log in as 'oracle' from the gui login prompt and it works.
However if I log in as 'arun' and open a terminal and try to login as 'oracle' it fails saying 'Login incorrect'
I definitely know that i am typing the correct password.
I am not sure why it allows me to login from the gui prompt but would not let me do the same in the terminal window.
Also, I noticed that when logged in as su, trying to switch to any other user in the terminal simply closes the terminal. I assume this is a feature.. just wanted to confirm.,
Thanks,
Arun N
