Cannot login after removing package from RHEL 5...
Ok,
I am new to RHEL 5 - and was using Sun Solaris Unix v5. Now, I am on a new playing field. haha! So, I got a bunch of flags after installing TZ_DATA update package... ok tzdata-2014e-11.el5. So, like a good scout, I thought - just install the package - haha. Wrong move. After uninstalling, I kept getting a message, unable to find /dev/root. I noticed the screen was starting to lock up as well. REBOOT ! haha - now I get - Kernel panic, could not find init((null)) bad address. I put the rescue disk in, wow - the /sbin/init is totally gone. Also, /bin/sh is gone too. Alot of link files are missing. I tried changing the grub's menu.lst root (hd0,0) Kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-371.8.1.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet audit=1 selunix=0|enforcing=0 to the uuid, root=uuid=uZXvGN-fQXO-bcHh-xMqt-POk1-gI1f-mc3F1q rhgb quiet ... rebooted, now getting - kernel paniced, cannot find /dev/root, unable to find /proc, unable to find /sys, unable to find /usr. Any suggestions? |
Maybe pouring petrol on it then flicking a lit match will help?
Seriously though - STOP DIGGING! Your LVM seems non-functional - maybe hardware failure or something you changed while "fixing" it. |
Well, I was able to get into LVM and both volumes were found and are available. Both were found during the boot up process.

Restore it from your backup?
|
the /sbin folder wasnt backed up.
|
Honestly, do you think I would of posted to this if I had a good back up? That would be a no brainer!
