Well, I just wrote the post here too soon, I guess, it wasn't too hard to solve this.
When using "Printer Support"->"Add Printer", you are asked to provide the address of the printer you want to install, it's like the app cannot find it by itself. If there's a button to make it search (I can't remember right now), it certainly didn't find it. One of the address types you can fill for the printer in that screen is the "uri".
"Printer Support" also has menu item "Troubleshooting", so I clicked that, and I think the first thing it asks is for you to select the printer you're having problems with. If there is no printer installed, like in this case, there is no printer to select, but you can click on a button and the app searches for a printer connected to the computer. And that way, for some reason, the app does find the printer (shouldn't this be part of the installing functionality? why hide it in "troubleshooting"?). When it finds the printer, you can see a line with some data, like the brand and model of the printer. The "uri" address is part of that data.
So then, I just went back to "Add printer", and filled the "uri" text field with the address for the printer that "Troubleshooting" showed. That way you can go on with the "Add printer" procedure (like choosing a driver for the printer, I had never any problem with that, Xerox's driver that I installed was listed together with lots of other drivers) and after a couple of clicks the printer is installed properly.
