cannot install wine
 

I recently installed linux ubuntu 5.10 amd64 and wanted to run some games on it so found out about wine. i went onto google and searched wine then clicked onto the winehq, clicked download, clicked ubuntu and followed the instructions, which were.
open synaptic, click settings then repository type in when it asks for url http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/
then click ok.
i do this then i find the wine package click on it to install but an error comes up saying make sure all repositorys are enabled then it says
winetools:
Depends: wine (>=0.0.20040914) but it is not installable
Depends: xdialog but it is not installable
Depends: gtk-smooth-themes but it is not installable

is this something i have done wrong or is it to do with ubuntu and wine?

With Ubuntu you should be able to just

apt-get install wine

All the deps will be taken care of.

If there isn't a wine ubuntu package, you might get the Debian one to work.

With Ubuntu and Debian there is little reason to install from source. Just use the package manager, i.e., apt-get.

Thanks but when i tried apt-get install wine
i got the message Package wine is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package wine has no installation candidate

where can i get the package?

You can use different sources.list (different urls).

For this, add your server urls you found to /etc/apt/sources.list

Also, I'd suggest you that you should use synaptics not to meet any problems about depencies..
