cannot install samba

Hello,

I'm having major problems installing Samba on my new, fresh Fedora 9 server. Having installed it I went I noticed that there was no SMB service and no Samba menu item in System > Admin. I tried the following to install it:

1) System > Admin > Add/Remove Software. Samba isn't listed, if I search for it (or select any of the listed apps) I get the following message: Problem connecting to a software source: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Fedora. Has anyone else had this problem, if I manually navigate to baseurl in the yum.repos.d>fedora.repo file I can see the repomd.XML file, although it doesn't do anything when you double click it.

2) I copied various Samba packages from the Fedora 9 CD to my home directory and installed the Samba service from samba-3.2.0-1.pre3.9.fc9.i386.rmp. I can confirm this is now running, however when I try to run the samba-client-3.2.0-1.pre3.9.fc9.i386.rpm (using rpm -ivh) it says it's already installed. If that's the case, and the smb service has started, why does Samba not appear on my System>admin menu?

Thanks

Did you try ;
sudo yum install samba samba-client

First remove all the samba packages you installed

Yes, I tried the sudo yum install samba samba-client command but this is the error I get:

[root@server ~]# sudo yum install samba samba-client
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/d...ta/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (111, 'Connection refused')>
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

But that xml file is there!?!?

How do I remove install packages?

Gave up and went back to the initial setup and installed the SAMBA files needed at the config stage. Still having the "Problem connecting to a software source" issue though, any ideas??
