Cannot Install Radeon 9700
 

Ok I have installed suse linux 8.1 on a secondary 80GB HD on my athalon xp alienware system.

It boots in 640 x 480 and I have an ATI Radeon 9700 pro graphics card, I read the article “Setting up Unsupported Graphics Cards with the Frame buffer Device (GRUB)” and i also read the article "Problems installing Radeon 9700 Pro on Suse 8.1" here on linuxquestions but i need real help.

but hey I am a newbie just trying to get this to work on my pc. I downloaded the Linux drivers from the ATI website and when I install them it automatically boots up to the LINUX#: prompt, why does it do this and how do I fix it?

If someone could please help me with like a step by step in laymens terms please.
