really think about upgrading this old system
putting ff3 on such an old system will most likely break it

first i would have a look at rhe4 doc page
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/
i am not sure what version you have
if this "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS, ES, WS and Red Hat Desktop (version 4)"
System Administration Guide
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...ration_Guide_/
-------- i take it you have the old install disks , you will need it to reinstall firefox 1.5 ( Release Date: November 29, 2005) and / or your os

the new firefox WILL need the new versions of about 1/4 to 1/2 of your system *.so's
1)
download ff3
the installer will let you install to /usr/FireFox3
install
add /usr/FireFox3 to your system path ~/.bash_profile
logout, login
from bash run
firefox
and wright down or copy all " can not find "something".(some number).so.(some number)
google it
find what package it is in and update that package . this will most likely break some programs , including gnome
if this happens reinstall the 3 year old os or install a new one

download it extract it to /usr
open a terminal
run
Code:
cd ~/
gedit .bash_profile
 -- add /usr/friefox to the $PATH
  -- and save
log out , log in
oped a terminal and run
Code:

cd /usr/firefox
./firefox
then track down all the errors
you might get lucky and have no errors??
