cannot install linux on an old micron PC,200mz,32mb ram
I have tried 5 distros,but cannot install linux on an old micron PC,200mz,32mb ram,it always stalls in middle,during X server, X 11.......
I tried knoppix ,as well as SUSE live cds will not boot correctly, nor will Vector ,which is suited to old PCs does this sound like some mobo, hard drive problem? |
sounds like you need to be more specific with your error messages. Gives some specific instances of when the installation hung, and what was going on when it did, and maybe what preceeded the system hanging. Are there any correlation between distros on when the system buggered? Try to be specific as possible and you will get the best help possible.

Try something with a text install that doesn't require you to setup X during install. Debian, Slackware, or ??????

Dude - do you have enough space on your disk? Sounds to me like you're just out of space. Forget RAM, what capacity is your drive? -- J.W.

i re set DOS partition for swap, try install CD again, after long slow wait-get this error
"error no suitable X-server found for your card" which card is this video?? |
Pretty much the first thing you see on the screen when the computer starts up is a message from your video card. Usually it says what sort you have. Otherwise you have to open the case and inspect the video card (the one the monitor connects to) for make/model identification. Just because it is not recognised by the installer does not mean it will not work.
